Effective Data Approaches to Advance Health Equity for Black Patients
The Journal of Pain and Symptom Management published an abstract for a presentation by CAPC's Brittany Chambers, MPH, and CAPC faculty Karen Bullock, PhD. The presentation discusses efforts to identify and address gaps in care for Black patients with serious illness by highlighting 15 data-driven initiatives aimed at improving access and quality of care, including the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to better identify high-risk patients and measure pain management. Some initiatives focused on investigating disparities in access to palliative care, using race and zip code data to identify and address inequities. The presentation emphasizes the importance of leveraging existing data collection efforts to drive meaningful improvements in health equity for Black patients facing serious illness.
