Join a team of Chaplains--providing spiritual care and emotional support to Valley View patients and families. Must have clinical pastoral education and be working toward certifications.
The Palliative Care inpatient Chaplain plays a critical role in supporting the emotional, psychosocial, and/or spiritual needs of hospitalized patients and families facing life-limiting or complex medical conditions. The Chaplain also serves as an essential collaborator in delivering holistic, person-centered care within the hospital setting.
Position is based in an acute care hospital setting. This is a full-time position, 4 8-hour weekdays, 32 hours a week.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES
• Provide bedside psychosocial and/or spiritual assessments of hospitalized patients referred to palliative care.
• Offer real-time emotional support, counseling, crisis intervention, and/or spiritual care to patients, families, and caregivers.
• Facilitate family meetings and goals-of-care discussions in collaboration with physicians or nurse practitioners.
• Help patients and families navigate complex medical decisions, ethical dilemmas, and advance care planning.
• Assess and address grief, anticipatory loss, existential distress, and cultural/spiritual concerns.
• Advocate for patient values, dignity, and preferences within the hospital environment.
• Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, case managers, and other disciplines to ensure continuity of care.
• Document assessments, interventions, and care plans clearly and promptly in the electronic health record.
• Participate in daily interdisciplinary team rounds and contribute to holistic care planning.
• Assist provider in coordinating family meetings, including visits with and calls to families to explain Palliative Care and reason for consultation.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provides and administers spiritual care and services for patients, families/visitors and staff who are in spiritual and/or emotional distress or need in the midst of trauma, stress, crisis, illness and/or medical treatment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
• Required: Minimum of two units (two years) of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), Board Certification or Board-eligible through ACPE, CPSP, SCA, CSCPF, etc.
• Preferred: 4 years CPE
• Preferred: Board certified or certification eligible in good standing with a national chaplaincy certification association
Experience:
• Experience in palliative care, inpatient hospital settings, hospice, oncology, ICU, or emergency care.
• Strong background in serious illness conversations, family systems, grief counseling, and/or spiritual care in acute settings.
Skills & Attributes:
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, family systems, grief counseling, and/or spiritual care in acute settings.
• Compassionate, culturally competent, and nonjudgmental approach to care.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Skilled in conflict resolution, emotional de-escalation, and navigating family dynamics.

SALARY
• Starting wage dependent upon education, experience and skill set
• Position wage range: $21.23 to $31.22/hour
