Pina Patel, MD, FAAHPM, HMDC
Pina Patel, MD, FAAHPM, HMDC, is the Section Chair for Pain and Palliative Medicine at Riverside Methodist Hospital, the flagship hospital of OhioHealth. Dr. Patel has broad clinical experience working in Emergency Medicine, Urgent Care, Inpatient/Outpatient Palliative Medicine, and Hospice. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Case Western Reserve University with departmental Honors in International Studies and Anthropology. Dr. Patel received her MD degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at the Harvard Affiliated EM Residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital in 2009.
Dr. Patel serves on the Ohio Department of Health Palliative Care and Quality of Life Interdisciplinary Council, as well as the Board of Directors for the Columbus Medical Association. She previously served as the Chair for the Outpatient Palliative Care Special Interest Group for the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She currently sits on the Clinical Guidance Council for Palliative Medicine and the Internal Medicine Peer Review Committee at Riverside Methodist Hospital. She is a graduate of the Columbus Medical Association Physician Leadership Academy. She is currently enrolled in an Accelerated QI Fellowship Program with OhioHealth, as well as the Executive Leadership in Healthcare certificate program through the Harvard School of Public Health.
Dr. Patel’s efforts have led to the establishment of a freestanding Outpatient Palliative and Supportive Care Clinic at OhioHealth. She is also a strong advocate of OhioHealth’s HomeReach Hospice, a leader in non-profit Hospice Care.
Dr. Patel has been published as a first author in the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management and has also been featured as a live guest on Good Morning America, as well as in the Boston Herald, the Daily Beast, and The Wall Street Journal.
